Consultancy

In cooperation with different partners in Colombia the institute will engage in research and scientifically founded consultancy.

Transfer and Dissemination of Knowledge

The CAPAZ will support the transfer and dissemination of academic knowledge in three different aspects:

Efforts will be undertaken on a national basis, jointly with existing higher education institutions in Colombia, with a particular emphasis on the inclusion of universities in the most affected areas;

Transfer of knowledge shall be guaranteed at the international level between Germany and Colombia (with the CAPAZ serving as the primary institution to administer and encourage this exchange of knowledge, including the exchange of staff and students between the two countries);

Interdisciplinary exchange will be at the heart of the CAPAZ. The Institute will also perform outreach activities, including consultancy.

Inclusion of the Affected Areas

Regional & Subregional Inclusion

The CAPAZ will work towards regional and sub-regional inclusion as a contribution to peace. The CAPAZ will place an emphasis on the affected areas and its people. This means that research projects will be oriented towards practice, people from affected areas will directly benefit from teaching activities of the CAPAZ and knowledge and further education will be provided demand-driven.

Inclusion of Universities

The inclusion of the universities of the affected areas will be crucial for an effective dissemination of knowledge, expanding beyond the original Colombian consortium. The proximity of these universities to the sources of conflict may help to better respond to demands in the respective regions, and they may serve as important multipliers of information to the people of these areas. The CAPAZ will encourage institutions in these areas to independently work towards peace. As the universities of the Alliance for Peace are all located in the capital, the CAPAZ will promote the inclusion of universities of the other regions in the academic scene.

Projects & Events

Apart from cooperative projects, specific projects and events will take place in the most affected areas. In the developmental phase, collaboration with the prominent partner institutions in Bogotá will be crucial for the establishment of the CAPAZ.

Inclusion of Individuals

However, from the beginning, events and advertisements of the CAPAZ will be open to participants from all parts of the country. The direct inclusion of persons from affected areas may be an important contribution for the establishment and development of institutional connections to selected partner universities in the different regions. These partners can be included institutionally and officially during the second phase when the CAPAZ will be founded as a legal entity. The thematic focus for research illustrated above already demonstrates a close relation to the victims and challenges in the affected regions.

Academic programs

Master’s and PhD programs shall be developed and implemented in cooperation with different universities. Further projects that contribute to the exchange of students, such as summer schools and workshops shall also take place in universities outside the capital of Bogotá. Programs of further education shall be elaborated in order to meet the particular demands of the affected areas also in cooperation with the universities in these areas.

Public Relations, Outreach

The CAPAZ shall take into account the importance of public relations. Pertinent activities will be addressed to policymakers, the civil society and the academic community.
One employee of the CAPAZ shall be engaged in Bogotá to be responsible for these activities.
